InfoPath Form Submission Error in SharePoint 2010

I’ve run into the odd problem with a customer SharePoint implementation I couldn’t find anywhere. I hope it helps someone with a similar issue.

This is running on SharePoint 2010 Enterprise. When I tried to add an entry into a Document library with the content default set to an InfoPath form I get the following error.

InfoPath Error Page

Well as we can see this does not help. It is trying to load the form, but it is also covering the Correlation ID. Wow how inconvenient.

As I looked into the ULS logs I noted the following entry:
w3wp.exe SharePoint Foundation Runtime 6615 Critical Requested registry access is not allowed.
Odd….
Then I noted the following Windows System Event log entry:
Event ID: 6615
Source: SharePoint Foundation
General: The source was not found, but some or all event logs could not be searched. Inaccessible logs: Security.

Ok I really odd…why does InfoPath care about registry permissions beyond what it already has. I download Process Monitor and noted it was getting access denied to the registry. I fixed that first error and then it error-ed again. I fixed that second registry key. After an IISReset and InfoPath started to work as expected.

Solution:

First Reg key: HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\services\eventlog\Security
Add Application Pool running SharePoint content site with Full control.

Second Reg key: HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\EventLog
Add Application Pool running SharePoint content site with Full control.

Then run IISReset.

If you installed SharePoint not using a least privilege model then this will probably not happen to you. You are having probably having other problems.
